I think Slydemon is at a point now were it simply can't be made any better for VFR flight. So how about adding synthetic vision and IFR approach plates say the gCAP ones?

That would come under the heading of a special IFR version of SkyDemon, which we haven't announced anything about at this time.

Reading between the lines does that then imply you are developing an IFR version of skydemon then?

I posted a while ago that this was the only thing that could make Skydemon better. I had ditched my Garmin 396 and years of trusty service and moved to Skydemon only but now I am hankering after a 795. I really hope that SD will do it as it is otherwise going to inevitably see people looking at Garmin again, despite the huge price.

I love Skydemon but I have to say I really want synthetic vision. I dont mind the price but SD should have it! Having built by far the best software for VFR flight dont let Garmin get one up on you now.

Here is an example of the problem for skydemon from this post on PPRune:

Been to Le Touquet and back today with the 795, and I have to say it's stunning.

Although it doesn't actually do a lot more than the 695, it's just SO fast to navigate round that you have way more info available instantly.

I still had my trusty SkyDemon on for the better (IMHO) airspace warnings, which is a bit of a waste of space, but will probably move completely over to the Garmin once I'm more confortable with it.

Quite clearly he says that skydemon has better airspace warnings (but then says is a waste of space???) but ultimately he says he will become a Garmin user rather than a Skydemon users. Thats not what we want.

Please develop some sort of Syn Vis if possible.

Synthetic 3D, IFR, Pannel, flight plan, all in mobile SD are becoming necessary extras.

I don't see Synthetic Vision as a tremendously useful addition to our current 5" device. It's not even clear how useful it is in a 7" device (with a much more powerful processor) for VFR needs. Is it impressive? No question of it. For the moment, you'll need to buy a device that costs about three times as much if you want it.

Thanks for the reply Tim

I dont think the Aspen screen is as big as that however and they seem to have a pretty compelling certified option.

I appreciate the Garmin option is a very expensive item and not really a direct comparision. I am sure their planning screens are rubbish compared to yours but I guess many people will be attracted the the synthetic vision. I love SkyDemon and yet I know I still am.

I have no idea what is involved in making something like that but you should do if you can and charge us pilots extra for it because we would pay to get SkyDemon and that together I am sure. I certainly would.

I'm not convinced of the value of synthetic vision on a portable device like the Garmin 795 where you don't have a bank angle input.  However, I would like to see geo-referenced IFR approach plates on a future Skydemon mobile product.  That combined with the existing terrain warnings should provide sufficient awareness for IFR flight without needing synthetic vision.

Thought l would add my 5p worth to this discussion.

I have synthetic vision WITH attitude information as l have a Dynon D10A and the Garmin 795. They are 12" apart and provide all the information (l hope) to get me out of trouble during involuntary IFR. In my circumstances the 3dV display is best with the tapes set to off as there is conflicting info between the two devices.

The 795 replaces the 7" device that l previously had which ran either PFMS or (more usually) SkyDemon. However, my backup unit (a 5" AWARE screen) is now going to be used with SD/PFMS. If nothing else l love 'playing' with the pseudo ILS on SD.

A slightly worrying issue arose at the airfield yesterday - at Andrewsfield (AMSL 286ft) but the Garmin 795 placed me (and the 3DV plane at 360ft), not a lot of use in ground level IFR. But the GPS screen stated an accuracy of 57ft (which l always though related top LAT/LONG). I acknowledge that 3DV using GPS derived data is not going to be precision approach accurate.
